still life

Stillness is part of life , yet it is a state that can feel uncomfortable when imposed.

During the recent intervals of enforced stasis, 'lockdown', I spent time readjusting my points of connection in order to retain a sense of movement. Whilst walking daily I listened to discussions on science, philosophy, politics and art history, and on returning to the studio created a series of drawings, a series of 'metaphysical companions'.

Historically 'still life' paintings, known as 'nature morte', evoked a sense of time through their depiction of collected objects and their relationships.
